Lee Hart’s Cowboy Logic

Cowboy Logic is the foundation of my program. It is the principle that I have developed over the years through trial and error. I believe in a simple approach to life and horses; each requires a balance. When things are good, we flow around as if we are one; a dance. This is my ultimate goal with the horse; to develop a partner that is willing, trusting and confident. I have great passion for my roots. From my first thoughts and dreams, it has been an obsession to be around horses and cattle. To become a cowboy, to me, that was the ultimate title, not CEO, not a lawyer but a cowboy. In modern times this world has lost some of its luster and maybe some of its meaning. To me, I define “cowboy” as a nurturer or a caregiver to these amazing animals that I love. As with any profession there will be those lost people who really have no passion and are just collecting checks. They can do the job but they will never be great at it. I believe it takes a logical approach not an emotional one, when working with horses. When we allow our emotions into the equations it becomes personal. To quote one of my mentors, “ It is never personal when dealing with a horse. If your emotions are coming into play it is time to get off the horse or out of the round pen.” A logical approach with a horse is to teach a horse in the way another horse would teach him. These are grand animals most of them accept being saddled and ridden with little resistance. This is not their nature, but accept it even though they were born wild and free. However, horses have the ability to adapt to any situation when taught properly. I do not believe fear and intimidation can ever be used to successfully communicate with the horse. True horsemen are able to present an idea to a horse consistently, reward the slightest try, and build a foundation that is the basis of a line of communication for a lifetime between horse and rider. We start with the foundation, which is the platform upon which everything else is built. ~ Lee Hart
