Goals/Levels of Training Ground Work: The foundation of communication between horse and rider is the ground work; riding your horse from the ground up. Learn to manipulate all the body parts of your horse from the ground before advancing to the saddle. Safety first, ALWAYS! Create a balance between desensitizing and correctly sensitizing your horse to prepare them for life. Basic Horsemanship: Establish your STOP and all three gates: walk, trot, and canter. Consistently move individual body parts, begin to obtain your vertical and lateral movement, respond to leg pressure. The goal is to work on getting a soft subtle horse. Advanced Horsemanship: Refine vertical and lateral movement that will be the beginning of “collection”, the definition of a truly balanced horse. Lead changes, flying lead changes, correct lead and correct diagonal. Speed control: gain the tools to rate your horse to the appropriate speed with softness. Obstacle Training: Regardless if it is a natural or manmade obstacle, this is a good way to build and nurture a brave horse. Tarps, bridges, drags, water crossing, roping, jumps, and dealing with natural terrain. Ready your horse to confidently deal with life’s unexpected encounters. Cattle Work & Sorting: Introduce your horse to cattle. Learn how to move cattle to the desired destination with speed and accuracy while minimizing stress from cattle or horse. Colt Starting: From the ground to the saddle. Help your colt accept saddling and outside stimulus, build confidence and prepare the horse for a lifelong positive partnership.
